Course Outline
Understanding Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (Day 1):
This session will provide an introduction to autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It will provide the knowledge of the impairments that are commonly present and co-occurring conditions associated with ASD. The content of the course will also include the cognitive, behavioural and social communication/ interaction characteristics of individuals with ASD and understand how these characteristics of ASD can become ‘challenging’ behaviours in school.
Supporting Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (Day 2)
This session broadly focuses on enhancing the capacities, skills and practices of the teachers teaching students with ASD and also AHPs who are supporting students with ASD. The course will focus on the application of evidence-based approaches and instructional strategies, including creating work systems and visual strategies as part of the learning environment for students with ASD.
Course Instructor
Dr Nah Yong Hwee is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. Both his research and clinical interests are in the (early) detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in young children, as well as ASD across the lifespan. He is also a Registered Psychologist of Singapore Registered Psychologists (SRP) and Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA). He has more than 20 years of working experience as a psychologist, and has assessed/worked with more than 1000 individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities ranging from 10 months to 60 years old both here in Singapore and in Australia. In addition, he is a Registered Psychologist Supervisor in Singapore.

– If the participant is absent without valid reason or without supporting document, full course fees will be charged with no refund
Withdrawal from the Registered Class
– Notification of withdrawal must be given via email to CPAS at least 8 weeks before the course commencement date. There will be an admin fee chargeable for late withdrawal:
- Notification received from 6 weeks before commencement of course – 50% of full course fee
- Notification received from 4 weeks before commencement of course – 75% of full course fee
- Notification received less than 4 weeks before commencement of course – 100% of full course fee
- No refunds will be given for non-attendance of workshop
