Course Outline

This course is all about supporting parents in recognizing just how important play is for their child’
s development! Parents will discover fun and practical strategies to encourage meaningful play
experiences that fit their child’s unique abilities. Facilitators will delve into the different types of play and uncover how they can significantly enhance cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Plus, tips on creating a warm and inviting play environment at home. Join us for a great opportunity to connect and learn together!

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the significance of play in child development, particularly for children with special needs
  • Identify different types of play and how they support cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth
  • Learn strategies to adapt play activities to meet their child’s needs and abilities
  • Develop skills to use play as a tool for communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation

Course Instructor

Ms Sarah Tan, an Early Intervention Vice-Principal, has over 22 years of rich experience working in the Special Needs Education sector, where she works with children and adolescents with diverse needs across a range of settings and roles in early intervention, Special Education Schools and MOE Primary School. Her passion and interests led her to obtain a Post-Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills (from Play Therapy International/UK) and she is a Certified Therapeutic Play Practitioner. In addition, she is an Early Communication professional – trained and licensed by The Hanen Centre in the 4I’s to Socialise” approach. Sarah believes in empowering parents to be advocators for their own child and strongly believes in the power of play that not only contributes to children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, but also promotes their overall well-being and self-regulation.

Ms Ruzanna Jamil, a Senior Early Intervention Educator, has over 16 years of dedicated experience in the special needs education sector. Anna is skilled and compassionate trainer committed to supporting children with diverse developmental, cognitive, and behavioral challenges. Her extensive experience spans working with children aged 2 to 17 in various educational and therapeutic settings. Anna leverages a strong foundation in evidence-based strategies to develop and implement individualized interventions that address the unique needs of each learner. She is passionate about creating
engaging, effective, and inclusive learning experiences and excels at tailoring her approach to maximize each child’s potential.

Terms and Conditions
– Registration will be confirmed only upon receiving invoice or full payment.
– If the participant is absent without valid reason or without supporting document, full course fees will be charged with no refund

Withdrawal from the Registered Class
Notification of withdrawal must be given via email to CPAS at least 8 weeks before the course commencement date. There will be an admin fee chargeable for late withdrawal:

  • Notification received from 6 weeks before commencement of course – 50% of full course fee
  • Notification received from 4 weeks before commencement of course – 75% of full course fee
  • Notification received less than 4 weeks before commencement of course – 100% of full course fee
  • No refunds will be given for non-attendance of workshop
