*Approved for Caregivers Training Grant (CTG) by Agency for Integrated Care (AIC).
Full Course Fees: $150 (excluding GST)
Co-payment of $10.00* only payable to CPAS.
*CTG is capped at $200 per child per financial year.

Skillsfuture Credit
Eligible caregivers who are Singapore Citizens can use their Skillsfuture Credit to offset co-payment payable after CTG funding

Course Outline

This course helps participants to understand how hand skills develop, including pre-writing and handwriting. Participants will learn the stages of pre-writing and how to improve these skills with activities. The course also covers common handwriting challenges and provides strategies for children with hand or fine motor difficulties. It teaches the basics of scissoring skills and how to support children in developing these skills with or without the use of special scissors. Additionally, participants will learn about the “Handwriting without Tears” approach, with helpful strategies and materials to improve handwriting skills.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to :

  • Understand basic hand functions and development of hand skills
  • Know what the pre-writing skills and pre-requisites for writing are
  • Gain knowledge about different developmental stages of pre-writing skills
  • Apply various activities to develop pre-writing skills
  • Learn foundation skills of handwriting
  • Identify common handwriting difficulties, and their causes
  • Gain some ideas and learn some strategies for children with hand function difficulties or fine motor difficulties
  • Gain some ideas and learn some strategies for children with handwriting difficulties
  • Understand basic pre scissoring, scissoring development and development of scissoring grip
  • Apply various activities to develop pre-scissoring and scissoring skills and use of special scissors
  • To understand the Handwriting without Tears approach, learn some strategies and materials that can be found online or off the shelves

Course Instructor

Ms Pampi Ghosh is an (fully registered by allied health professional council) Occupational Therapist with a specialization in Sensory Integration (SI) and in Neuro-developmental Treatment (NDT) in paediatrics. She has been practicing since 1990 mainly with infant and children from birth to early adolescence. She is a sign post certified therapist for behaviour management. She is a recognized Occupational Therapy student supervisor since 1993. Currently she is the Associate Faculty for Occupational Therapy course at Singapore Institute of Technology since 2018. Her work experiences are primarily with children having physical and intellectual disabilities, namely cerebral palsy, developmental delay, autism, downs syndrome and other chromosomal syndrome. She also has extensive experience in the management of sensory integrative disorder. Besides her professional qualification she also holds Graduate diploma in organization leadership.
Currently Pampi, is Department Head of Occupational Therapy at Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS). She was the core team member in implementation of Transdisciplinary approach at CPAS for Early intervention programme in 2013 and later was involved in implementation of Trans D approach in special school. She was also the key member to implement School to work programme in 2016.
She is the key member of Establishing Sensory Integration clinic, Seating and 24- hour positioning clinic, Hand and ortho clinic, Assistive technology HUB and independent living centre at CPAS.
Pampi was the Judge of Assistive technology projects of student innovation challenge – I CREATE Workshop and Reviewed paper for I create 9TH International convention on Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Conference, she was the project reviewer in a study entitled “Portable Robotic Rehabilitation Device for Training Fine Motor Skills”. A research project by Republic Polytechnic, School of Engineering.
Her special interest of training is in the area of understanding Cerebral Palsy , intervention of hand function, prewriting/handwriting skills, complex special seating and 24 hour positioning for children with multiple disability, Sensory processing and sensory Integration deficits and strategies , visual perception /visual motor skills, upper limb facilitation and fine motor skill ,splinting , Basic Activities of Daily living such as Feeding , Dressing ,Toileting skills , measuring outcome for Assistive technology .
Pampi has conducted numerous Workshops on above mentioned area in Singapore and overseas. She is the trainer at SSI since 2004 and received long service award in 2021. Pampi is Certified with Advance certification of Training and Assessment (ACTA) and Advanced Certification of Learning and Performance (ACLP) from IAL -Singapore.

Ms Andrea Koh obtained her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Singapore Institute of Technology & Trinity College Dublin in 2018 and has been working in CPAS as an Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) registered Occupational Therapist. Andrea has experience working in trans-disciplinary teams and has been providing therapy services for children aged 2 to 18 with varied diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, developmental delays and more. Andrea conducts assessments, sets goals and plans customised therapy interventions to help children with daily living, school participation, fine motor development, play, seating & posture management, sensory needs and many more areas of practice. She also actively works with caregivers and teachers on strategies and modifications or equipment to support children in their classroom and home environments.

Terms and Conditions
– Parents / Caregivers are required to fill in the CTG Application form, and provide the necessary documents stated in the form as required by AIC.
– Registration will be confirmed only upon receiving invoice or full payment.
– If the participant is absent without valid reason or without supporting document, full course fees will be charged with no refund

Withdrawal from the Registered Class
Notification of withdrawal must be given via email to CPAS at least 8 weeks before the course commencement date. There will be an admin fee chargeable for late withdrawal:

  • Notification received from 6 weeks before commencement of course – 50% of full course fee
  • Notification received from 4 weeks before commencement of course – 75% of full course fee
  • Notification received less than 4 weeks before commencement of course – 100% of full course fee
  • No refunds will be given for non-attendance of workshop
