Classroom Cures: Instructional Adaptations for Success with Students with SEN

Course Outline
How do you “fix” common classroom academic problems that interfere with student success? Investigate cognitive, emotional, social, behavioral, sensory, perceptual, communication and physical characteristics of students, considering who they are, and how they learn best, along with what and how you are teaching. The focus of this practical and engaging workshop will be on easy-to-implement techniques and interventions that provide appropriate scaffolding and content-rich differentiated lessons that celebrate the abilities of ALL learners including students with special education needs (SEN). How do you accommodate for their learning differences?

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to learn to:

• Examine multiple proven strategies to support students with special education needs (SEN) achieve greater academic success
• Learn techniques to apply appropriate accommodations and modifications that connect curriculum standards with students’ needs
• Explore differentiated instruction to maximize the learning for whole class, small groups and individual students

Course Instructor

Dr. Kathy Perez, an international consultant, presenter, teacher, instructional coach, administrator and author has worked with students from preschoolers to university graduates. Dr. Kathy is Professor Emerita at Saint Mary’s College of California. She has extensive teaching experience as a general and special educator, literacy/ESL coach, and curriculum/staff development coordinator.

Terms and Conditions
– Participants from SSAs will be eligible for the VCF subsidy based on certain criteria and on first-come-first serve basis, as only limited seats are given by NCSS.
– Participants register before 15 May, and did not receive VCF funding , may need to pay full course fee.
– Registration will be confirmed only upon receiving invoice or full payment.
– In the event of no show up for the course, course fee will be charged with no refund.
