Course Outline

The programme aims to define and apply the concept of building emotional resilience in caregiving through evidence-based models and approaches. The programme will also introduce participants to the ecosystem for caregiving in the local context, along with various stakeholder engagement strategies that can be applied to practical work environments. Participants will be exposed to reflexive practices that would aid them in supporting the needs of their clients. Additionally, participants will be presented with general guidelines and ethical standards that relate to the formulation of effective interventions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the challenges faced by caregivers
  • Assess the well-being of caregivers
  • Apply evidence-based concepts and strategies for working with caregivers in Singapore

Course Instructor

Dr Praveen Nair is currently a Psychologist and Senior Consultant at Raven. With more than 20 years of clinical, supervisory and management experience that spans across three sectors (the Civil Service, the Non-Profit Sector, and the Private Sector), Dr Nair is a practitioner-researcher with a specialty in forensic youth-based interventions and counselling. With his doctoral work revolving around training professionals in Singapore, he is currently also a Consultant & Clinical Supervisor for a myriad of Non-Profit, as well as Public & Private Sector organisations such as VWOs, schools, private companies, government bodies and law firms.

Some of Dr Nair’s professional achievements thus far include being:
– A Consultant to the local media on matters pertaining to Psychology, Counselling & Social Work;
– The first Clinician in Singapore to have provided full-time clinical supervision on the Responsible Thinking Process for a mainstream school;
– The first Academic in Singapore to have implemented an outdoor Field Research component as part of an undergraduate Psychology programme;
– The first Clinician in Singapore to provide consultation services to the staff of ‘high-risk’ schools;
– The first Clinician in Singapore to develop an intervention programme contextualised for ‘at-risk’ youth of the country; and
– The first Clinician in Singapore to conduct a Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and university accredited training programme on Advanced Counselling Skills and Understanding Criminality in Singapore Youth
