Course Outline
The programme aims to define and apply the concept of building emotional resilience in caregiving through evidence-based models and approaches. The programme will also introduce participants to the ecosystem for caregiving in the local context, along with various stakeholder engagement strategies that can be applied to practical work environments. Participants will be exposed to reflexive practices that would aid them in supporting the needs of their clients. Additionally, participants will be presented with general guidelines and ethical standards that relate to the formulation of effective interventions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the challenges faced by caregivers
- Identify the well-being of caregivers
- Apply evidence-based concepts and strategies for working with caregivers in Singapore
Course Instructor
Dr Praveen Nair is currently a Psychologist and Senior Consultant at Raven. With more than 20 years of clinical, supervisory and management experience that spans across three sectors (the Civil Service, the Non-Profit Sector, and the Private Sector), Dr Nair is a practitioner-researcher with a specialty in counselling interventions. With his doctoral work revolving around training professionals in Singapore, he is currently also a Consultant & Clinical Supervisor for a myriad of Non-Profit, as well as Public & Private Sector organisations such as VWOs, schools, private companies, government bodies and law firms.
In addition to being a Full Member with the Singapore Psychological Society and an Adult Educator with the Social Service Institute, Dr Nair is also an MSF Certified Practitioner for the Management of Family Violence. Furthermore, Dr Nair was a Clinical Supervisor for Keele University’s Master in Counselling Psychology course, the New School of Psychotherapy’s Doctorate Programme, and is presently a Clinical Supervisor for Monash University’s Master of Counselling course in Singapore. While currently an adjunct faculty member at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and James Cook University Singapore (JCUS), Dr Nair also previously lectured in Psychology & Counselling for Murdoch University, Northumbria University, Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Social Service Institute.
