Course Outline

This course aims to define Assistive Technology, its types, introductory concepts and terminology from the field of AT. This training will also provide knowledge on how Assistive Technology devices can be used to promote different living and learning skills for better social participation and integration

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to :

  • Understand the definition and classification of Assistive Technology
  • Assistive Technology Framework and its application
  • Types of Assistive Technology and its use in different contexts e.g. home and living, school and workplace and play
  • Considerations for prescription of Assistive Technology for persons with Cerebral Palsy

Course Instructor

Ms Manju Mohta is a qualified and registered Occupational Therapist by Allied Health Professional Council of Singapore with a combined clinical experience of more than 17 years in Singapore and India. She heads the Assistive Technology Department at CPAS, which provides assistive technology to our clients with physical and multiple disabilities to enhance their functional abilities in the areas of living, learning and leisure, both at the center and at home. She leads various projects on design thinking, innovation, and technology with internal and external stakeholders such as NCSS, NUS, SIT, NYP, Gov Tech, Engineering Goods and ST Engineering.
She is a certified Assistive Technology Professional with a Certificate in Advanced Professional Development for Assistive Technology Applications from California State University, Northridge, USA. She has also received the Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) credential from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). Ms. Mohta is a guest instructor at NUS for the Assistive Technology for CP module in the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program and conducts trainings on Assistive Technology, Computer Accessibility and Independent Living.
She is particularly interested in the areas of assistive devices, environmental accessibility, computer accessibility and universal design. She believes that through the appropriate and skilled use of assistive devices and the creation of universally designed environment, more opportunities can be created for independent functioning for people with special needs.

Ms Chew Shi Yi is a qualified and registered Occupational Therapist who has been practicing in Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore since 2017. She currently works with children ages 6 and below in the Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) and her caseload involves children with varied diagnosis including Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder and multiple disabilities. She is involved in assessment, trial and provision of assistive equipment for use in the classroom and at home. She also works closely with other members of the Trans-disciplinary team, such as the teachers and caregivers to allow the child to practice and use the equipment across settings. She believes that the use of these assistive devices will allow clients to participate in leisure, school/work and activities of daily living (ADL) more independently.

– Parents / Caregivers are required to fill in the CTG Application form, and provide the necessary documents stated in the form as required by AIC.
– Registration will be confirmed only upon receiving invoice or full payment.
– If the participant is absent without valid reason or without supporting document, full course fees will be charged with no refund
